The word heather actually is derived from the word hather which is middle English and means an open land covered with heather and or moss. While the most common colour associated with wild heather is purple, the plant has been cultivated into different colours. The symbolism of the heather plant is rich and steeped in history. I highly recommend Canada Flowers. I send my Aunt, who is in a retirement home, a few bouquets each year.
